The Big Eye project starts with the reworking of a digital image taken from the web: the detail of the eye cut from the official portrait of the current president of the Russian Federation. Each pixel is hand painted with spray colors. On each pixel is reported the name of a Russian journalist killed on commission with the relative date of death, since 1993 (the year of the putsch and the birth of press freedom in Russia) to the present day.
Big eye wants to reflect on the nature of digital, as fragmentation and transferability of the image, humanize the mechanical printing process, restore materiality to a supportless image and give visibility to those who have been already forgotten.
